FROM THE UK, Creative Director Matt began his hairdressing career in 1987 at Partners Hair Design, London. Under the strict guidance of the late Ian Duncan, Matt was given the opportunity to experience stage work at the early age of 17.
In 1989, Matt joined the international hair trendsetters, TONI&GUY where he worked at their Mayfair salon before his promotion as HEAD COLOURIST at their Sloane Square branch. When Toni&GuY opened their prestigious Academy at West Central Street, Matthew was selected to spearhead Toni&GuY as a leader in the field of colour!
In 1998, Matt opened a Toni&GuY franchise in the UK which he ran successfully for 6 years before moving to Kuala Lumpur with his Malaysian wife, Jen.
He spent a year working at Toni&GuY singapore and then Toni&Guy Patent house before opening The Belfry Salon. In April 2013, Matthew decided to rejoin the Toni&Guy group and The Belfry is now known as Toni&Guy Troika
Determined to master every subtle nuance of creating flawless colour techniques, he trained under accomplished industry experts to sharpen his technique and ensure each client left with a look that was both timeless and fresh.
As Creative Technical Director for Toni&GuY Europe, Matt was part of the International Artistic Team that won the “Best Art Team” accolade ten times at the British Hairdressing Awards.
He led the Advanced Color Courses, created colour looks for videos and books, appeared at shows, educated hairdressers and gave expert advice at seminars around the world. Matt also worked as celebrity hairdresser Anthony Mascolo’s personal colourist, colouring the likes of Trudie Styler, Stella Tennant, Keeley Hawes, Alison Moyet and Fiona Phillips.

It’s been a year and a half that I’ve been coming EACH month to TONI&GUY and getting my hair done by Matt. I had multiple colors, highlights and haircut as well. Every time, Matt has been very professional, efficient, knowledgeable. He’s always there to guide you in a decision giving honest opinion and advice. His work has always been consistent (I have to mention it as it is not always the case with all hairdressers as good as they can be unfortunately). So I really recommend him hands down.

I had my hair highlighted, lowlighted, bleached etc in another country and Matt was able to tell me exactly what the previous hairdresser put on my hair just by looking at it. My hair was pretty damaged and Matt was honest about what I could realistically expect and the timeline to fully get my hair healthy again. So happy with the results!
